Projects: Hockey

Having once been played only on level natural grass surfaces, modern hockey is now played on the preferred synthetic surfaces, these being flatter and better for a smooth, fast run-of-the-ball.

Synthetic hockey pitches at international-level have an irrigation system to allow heavy watering of the pitch before and at half-time, in order to improve ball speed through 'lubrication'. water requirement and delivery volumes are very high, requiring specialist design services.

Accurate laying of the pitch profile, both base and finishing layers, is absolutely critical to a good playing surface. ISTeC work in conjunction with testing companies such as Labosport, to check the base preparation through our site-based staff, and then through such consultants, checking the quality control of materials and the laying process.

Done properly, it should then only be a formality to receive the FIH certification that proves the quality of the pitch.
